Excursions/ Incursions

Each term across all Queanbeyan & District Preschool Association preschools, children will attend excursions out into the broader Queanbeyan or Canberra community that are directly related to and part of the curriculum or a topic the children have shown a strong interest in. We see this as an opportunity to extend our curriculums by including events such as performances at Q-Theatre Queanbeyan or other local events (such as Children’s Week – Playgroup in the Park). We will also provide exciting & fun bus trips out into broader surroundings (National Zoo & Aquarium, Questacon, Botanic Gardens, Dinosaur Museum or Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve as some examples of past excursions).
Families are very welcome to join their children and teachers on these excursions whenever possible.

Incursions are held occasionally within our preschools where we invite members of the broader community to visit us and perform or present information for the children. Incursions are related to and part of the curriculum, often a topic the children have shown an interest in or a learning area based around children’s safety and wellbeing. We see this as an opportunity to invite members of the community into our preschools and become a part of our learning programs – an example of incursions often include; a visit from the local library service to hold a story time, fire truck or police visits, musical performances or incursions that teach us about culture, music, health or sustainability.
